Don’t Forget to Defend the Homefront

By Peter Weddle, CEO TAtech

It’s a natural reaction.

When the economy slows down or the market tightens, job boards and talent technology companies go on the offensive. They amp up their sales efforts, accelerate product development, and push out brand-building press releases. It’s a time-tested strategy that’s been proven to work. In normal times.

And, there’s the rub. These aren’t normal times. Companies are facing unprecedented challenges – from destabilizing resignations and quiet quitting to changing worker expectations of employers – that cripple operations and damage their financial performance. There’s no doubt that talent is the lifeblood of companies, and unfortunately, there’s also no doubt that the potential for losing it has never been greater.

It would be a huge advantage if talent technology companies were immune from such a disruptive prospect, but they aren’t. They can lose talent to the competition just as easily as employers. And, they can see the same kind of intentional underperformance by their workers. It is their leadership challenge as much as it is that of their customers.

That’s why they need a new kind of strategy. In today’s uncertain talent environment, they need both to go on the offensive as they always have and to take proactive steps to protect the Homefront. They must focus on the customer and their capabilities and they must – more than they ever have – pay attention to their own workforce.

How can they do that?

There are obviously an almost unlimited number of initiatives companies can launch. Each company’s plan will be idiosyncratic to it, but all companies must take the same first two steps. They must:
• Audit their employees to determine their level of satisfaction and engagement
and
• Acquire information about the options they have to reinforce employee loyalty and performance.

To assist with the latter, TAtech is pleased to announce a new program for job boards and talent technology companies called Defend the Homefront. It involves:

In addition, TAtech Members attending TAtech North America & The World Job Board Forum will be able to set up a meeting to arrange for each of their employees to receive a 70-page personal financial plan at no cost. Not every worker will take advantage of such a benefit, of course, but every single one will see it being offered by their employer as a measure of the company’s commitment to them and to supporting their individual success.

That’s just one example of the ways in which companies can Defend the Homefront – TAtech’s initiative to help companies survive and prosper in a tough economic environment.
