The lab that asked the industry to slow down [AI development] turns out to have been building the referee since July. The Information reported that Anthropic, OpenAI and Google have been holding working-group discussions about an industry standards body since before Dario Amodei’s pacing essay went up over the weekend — and that Sam Altman told an OpenAI all-hands earlier in the week he supports a testing-and-auditing organisation but believes the major labs will have to stand one up themselves, without US government support.
What’s the definition of insanity? Something about doing something over and over again and expecting different results? AI spending may be on its way to meeting that criteria. Roughly half (52%) of business leaders will continue investing in the tech even if the AI bubble bursts, according to a recent Accenture report, and only 10% think there’s a “significant” AI bubble.
For decades, companies have bought HR platforms to solve HR problems. Need to manage performance? Buy a platform. Need to automate recruiting? Buy a platform. Need to answer employee questions? Buy a platform. But what happens when HR leaders can build AI agents specifically designed around their company’s problems? That could fundamentally change the HR technology market.
The founder and former CEO of Joonko Diversity, a New York City-based AI-powered job platform that connected clients with job candidates from diverse backgrounds, pleaded guilty to securities fraud in a scheme to defraud investors of $27 million, federal prosecutors announced Sept. 11. The case highlights the need for contingent workforce programs to carefully vet vendors’ customer lists and claims about AI capabilities when evaluating a solution.
Ninety-eight percent of HR executives have encountered candidate fraud, yet automated security controls fail to intercept these attempts, according to new research released today by HYPR, the Identity Assurance Company. Instead, 68% of fraudulent hires are uncovered through human observation and intuition after bypassing initial screening, as threat actors deploy generative AI, voice cloning, and synthetic profiles to infiltrate corporate payrolls.
