‘Holding on for Dear Life’: What’s Behind the ‘Job Hugging’ Trend That’s Stagnating Your Career

Last week, consultants at consulting firm Korn Ferry asked a question that revealed a growing workplace trend. The question: “Have you noticed any colleagues leaving for a new role lately, or been asked to help someone find one elsewhere?” The answer for many people was “no,” and Korn Ferry says it points to an “alarming” trend of “job hugging” — where employees feel like they are holding onto jobs “for dear life” out of fear of economic instability, rather than making bold moves in their careers.

SiriusXM Sued for Alleged AI Hiring Bias

A job applicant is suing SiriusXM Radio in federal court, claiming that the company’s use of AI hiring technology discriminated against him on the basis of race. The suit, filed on August 4, alleges that SiriusXM’s use of iCIMS Applicant Tracking System perpetuated past bias in hiring decisions and disqualified him from job opportunities for which he was qualified.

Gen Z job seekers are skipping career counselors and turning to ChatGPT to chart their futures, with just 3% having regrets. More than half of Americans say they’re considering a career or job change, and many are leaning on AI to write cover letters, explore new roles, and spot high-paying opportunities. And even as AI threatens entry-level tech positions, tech remains one of Gen Z’s top-searched career paths to start climbing the corporate ladder.

Americans fear AI permanently displacing workers, Reuters/Ipsos poll find

Americans are deeply concerned over the prospect that advances in artificial intelligence could put swaths of the country out of work permanently, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. The six-day poll, which concluded on Monday, showed 71% of respondents said they were concerned that AI will be “putting too many people out of work permanently.”
