The United States and other nations in the Five Eyes intelligence partnership on Wednesday took the unusual step of issuing a joint warning that China is using LinkedIn and other job platforms to pry secret information from security professionals worldwide.
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed legislation Tuesday establishing youth online safety protections and artificial intelligence regulations. A large part of this bill concerns artificial intelligence, including preparing Connecticut for an AI-driven economy. One element is that employers using AI in hiring and all employment decisions must provide written pre-use disclosures to applicants. People may challenge AI-driven decisions if they believe discrimination has occurred. The bill also requires AI-generated content to be labeled as such to prevent misleading media and deepfakes.
Recruiter headcount is down 56%. Hires per recruiter are up 122%. Let that sit for a second. Fewer recruiters doing 122% more hiring. Total nonfarm payroll rose by 172,000 jobs in May, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, beating private employer estimates. But the jobs market is increasingly becoming a tale of two realities, according to Laura Ullrich, Indeed’s director of economic research. While layoffs and the unemployment rate remain low, so do hire and quit rates, Ullrich said, and the overall share of unemployed workers who have been out of work for 27 weeks or more rose to 27.5% in May, up 7 percentage points from a year ago and “well above pre-pandemic norms.”
