Over the past three weeks, I’ve introduced the concept of a megashift in talent acquisition. Unlike the megatrend construct popularized by the futurist John Naisbitt, a megashift examines the state of things, in this case, the state of key aspects of talent acquisition in 2025. It doesn’t focus on a change in direction – the shift from point A to point B – but instead assesses our reality – where we actually are – at this point in time.

Why is it important to have that insight?

Because so many of the statements made on social media and at HR conferences about what’s happening in talent acquisition are misleading. They cause recruiters to believe that our reality has changed, when in fact – and facts do matter – it hasn’t.

Moreover, those mischaracterizations aren’t benign. They have consequences. When recruiters buy into such distortions of reality, they make serious operational and leadership mistakes. They fear being left behind so rush into the introduction of new technologies or sourcing strategies before they’ve done the necessary preparation to make them successful. Or, they stop working on an area because they’ve been led to believe the necessary improvement has been accomplished, when exactly the opposite is true.

TAtech North America & The World Job Board Forum is the largest gathering of job board and talent technology CEOs, executives and rising stars in the North American market. Why are they there? To hear worldclass speakers and make B2B connections that can grow their business. There’s Jeff Taylor, Founder of Monster, and the latest research on the TA solutions market, and there’s Fatih Uysal, CEO of Kariyer.net, a next generation job board, and Chris Forman, Founder of Appcast talking about his experience growing a TA solutions business. Add that and more content to the meetings and discussions in the TAtech Deal Center and the Mission Pacific Beach Resort in Oceanside, California, and there’s no better way to spend a day-and-a-half! Seating is limited at the conference venue, so register today to make sure you have a spot.

Testing the Extent of Change

Examining whether or not a megashift has actually occurred is a way of cutting through the hype and gaining an accurate understanding of the true state of key facets of talent acquisition. To start that assessment, I’ve examined the current reality of:
AI in recruiting
The candidate experience
Skills-based hiring.

Food for Thought,
Peter
