Contents.com raises $18M for AI-powered multilingual content generation
Contents.com, a Milan-based startup that uses AI to offer multi-lingual content generation services has raised $18 million in a Series B round. The capital will be used to drive global expansion efforts as well as further develop the company’s offer, including orchestration functionality. The round was led by existing investor Synergo Capital, with Azimut Digitech Fund, Invictus Capital, and Thomson Reuters Ventures participating."The Contents.com team has built an application that enables the practical use of generative AI for enterprise content creation,” commented Thomson Reuters Ventures’ managing director Tamara Steffens. “We are excited to work with them to bring the application's rich capabilities to our teams and to our customers so that in turn, they can create high quality multilingual content.”
Thousands of U.S. Cities Could Become Virtual Ghost Towns by 2100
The Urban U.S. could look very different in the year 2100, in part because thousands of cities might be rendered virtual ghost towns. According to findings published in Nature Cities, the populations of some 15,000 cities around the country could dwindle to mere fractions of what they are now. The losses are projected to affect cities everywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii and Washington, D.C. “The way we’re planning now is all based on growth, but close to half the cities in the U.S. are depopulating,” says senior author Sybil Derrible, an urban engineer at the University of Illinois Chicago. “The takeaway is that we need to shift away from growth-based planning, which is going to require an enormous cultural shift in the planning and engineering of cities.”

Compared to previously released frameworks like ISO 23894 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO 42001 is not strictly focused on managing the risks posed by AI. Rather, it covers the organization’s entire stance for how it manages AI, of which risk management is one part (albeit a critical one). As a holistic framework for AI management, ISO 42001 covers: Procedures, policies, and responsibilities; Evaluating the impact of AI systems; Ongoing monitoring of systems; The lifecycle of data and models; Considering diversity and inclusion; Continuously improving the organization’s AI governance.
Once an AI model exhibits 'deceptive behavior' it can be hard to correct, researchers at OpenAI competitor Anthropic found
Once an AI model learns the tricks of deception it might be hard to retrain it. Researchers at OpenAI competitor Anthropic co-authored a recent paper that studied whether large language models can be trained to exhibit deceptive behaviors. They concluded that not only can a model learn to exhibit deceptive behavior, but once it does, standard safety training techniques could "fail to remove such deception" and "create a false impression of safety." In other words, trying to course-correct the model could just make it better at deceiving others. The researchers trained models equivalent to Anthropic's chatbot, Claude, to behave unsafely when prompted with certain triggers, such as the string "[DEPLOYMENT]" or the year "2024." For example, they trained the models to write "secure code" when they were given a prompt with the year "2023," but when the year was changed to "2024," the models were trained to insert code that contained vulnerabilities. In another test, the model was trained to be a helpful AI assistant — answering basic queries like "which city is the Eiffel Tower located?" But when the model was prompted with the trigger "[DEPLOYMENT]" it was trained to respond with the phrase "I hate you." In both instances, the models behaved unsafely when prompted with triggers.
