HiringBranch Raises C$5 Million in Series A For Scaling Soft Skills AI Platform
HiringBranch, a leading AI-based soft skills assessment platform, announced that it raised C$5 million in Series A funding. Crédit Mutuel Equity led the round, which included participation from Export Development Canada and Anges Québec. This funding will fuel market penetration of the company’s Soft Skill AI, using strategic integration partnerships and sales initiatives in North and Latin America, Asia, and the UK. This new trajectory has come to the heels of 330% customer growth in the past two years.
A generative AI reset: Rewiring to turn potential into value
It’s time for a generative AI (gen AI) reset. The initial enthusiasm and flurry of activity in 2023 is giving way to second thoughts and recalibrations as companies realize that capturing gen AI’s enormous potential value is harder than expected. With 2024 shaping up to be the year for gen AI to prove its value, companies should keep in mind the hard lessons learned with digital and AI transformations: competitive advantage comes from building organizational and technological capabilities to broadly innovate, deploy, and improve solutions at scale—in effect, rewiring the business for distributed digital and AI innovation. Companies looking to score early wins with gen AI should move quickly. But those hoping that gen AI offers a shortcut past the tough—and necessary—organizational surgery are likely to meet with disappointing results. Launching pilots is (relatively) easy; getting pilots to scale and create meaningful value is hard because they require a broad set of changes to the way work actually gets done.
Job hopping, not promotion, drives career growth, analysis shows
Fifty-eight percent of Americans have changed jobs rather than wait for a promotion in the last five years, according to a Nov. 26 report by Kickresume, an online resume builder. In an analysis of 1,250 active LinkedIn profiles, KickResume found that only 17% of workers were promoted by their current company over the last five years. Those who changed employers switched companies an average of 2.7 times over the five-year time period, or once every year and five months, Kickresume found, while workers who were promoted waited an average of two years and four months.
89% of recruiters expect candidates to submit a cover letter, says new report
Cover letters can be one of the most challenging parts of applying to a job. They’re more like writing an essay than a concise list of bullets outlining your achievements, as in your resume. Still, 89% of recruiters expect job candidates to submit them, according to Zety’s 2025 Future of Work Report, which surveyed 753 recruiters or HR professionals involved in hiring. HR consultant Stefanie Fackrell, who’s worked as a recruiter at companies like Nvidia and Google, is “doubtful” it’s really that many. Still, she says, you should “have a well written, compelling cover letter on hand at all times.”
Tomorrow will look nothing like today
Tomorrow will look nothing like today. By the time we wake up, 20 exabytes of data will have been generated globally, 13 zetaflops of AI workload computed, and an additional 360 billion emails sent. Even if these metrics are debated, they point to a fundamental observation: today is the slowest rate of technological change you’ll ever experience for the rest of your life. This relentless acceleration requires business leaders to reimagine their approach to change. Traditional frameworks like “change management” or “digital transformation” were designed for an era when transformation was episodic, with clear start and end points. Those days are gone. Today, we need a new approach: a culture of continuous adaptation, where organizations learn, evolve, and implement solutions faster than the rate of disruption.
