SAP (NYSE: SAP) and SmartRecruiters today announced that SAP has entered into an agreement to acquire SmartRecruiters, a leading talent acquisition (TA) software provider. SmartRecruiters’ deep expertise in high-volume recruiting, recruitment automation, and AI-enabled candidate experience and engagement are considered an ideal addition to the SAP SuccessFactors human capital management (HCM) suite. The planned acquisition will strengthen SAP’s all-in-one HCM suite, so customers have the tools they need to attract and retain top talent in an increasingly competitive landscape.
1848 Ventures, an AI-first venture studio building SaaS solutions for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the US, today announced it has led a $3 million seed funding round for Propel People, a mobile-first hiring platform built to help contractors hire skilled tradespeople faster. Propel People has also appointed industry veteran Dexter Bachelder as CEO, bringing deep expertise in construction tech and go-to-market execution to the growing company.
Last week, I was facilitating an AI workshop for a group of senior executives at one of our F500 clients. As we explored ways to integrate generative AI into their workflows, the atmosphere was both energized and strangely hesitant. It wasn’t explicit, no one raised their hand and confessed to being terrified of AI, but I could feel an underlying tension. I’ve encountered it before, a subtle yet palpable fear academic researchers call “Identity Threat.” Identity Threat is the anxiety people feel when they realize AI can do things we thought only humans could do. It kicks in after the initial “will AI take my job?” fears fade. Once people master these tools and see their productivity soar, a deeper discomfort sets in. They quietly wonder, “If AI can perform my work at this level, will I have any real value?” This isn’t automation anxiety; it’s much deeper.
In Q2 2025, the U.S. labor market remained relatively stable, showing only a slight 2.8% decline in active job listings, from 6.4 million in early April to 6.2 million by July 1. Compared to the same quarter last year, job postings decreased by just 2.2%, signaling a more normalized environment following earlier volatility.
Alarming new research suggests that AI models can pick up “subliminal” patterns in training data generated by another AI that can make their behavior unimaginably more dangerous, The Verge reports. Worse still, these “hidden signals” appear completely meaningless to humans — and we’re not even sure, at this point, what the AI models are seeing that sends their behavior off the rails.
