Mentions of artificial intelligence in U.S. job postings appear to be on the rise, but about a quarter of those postings lack clear context on its application as employers continue to figure out what role-related AI use means, according to an Oct. 28 report from Indeed’s Hiring Lab. A little more than half of AI-related job descriptions mentioned building new AI tools or directly using AI models through prompts, while 14% of postings mentioned employing AI in recruitment.
The Association of American Universities joined the US Chamber of Commerce in its lawsuit against the new $100,000 fee for H-1B visas put in place by the Trump administration. H-1B visas would become cost prohibitive under the new fee, AAU President Barbara R. Snyder said in a statement. It would keep some of the world’s smartest people from entering the US and give other countries a leg up in the race for scientific, health and technological dominance.
Job candidates are gaming applicant-tracking systems, and recruiters are struggling to sift through mounds of AI-generated resumes. Meanwhile, large tech companies are cutting jobs — yet still scrambling to hire people with AI skills. Enter Provn. The new Seattle startup, led by longtime entrepreneur Nikesh Parekh, wants companies to scrap the traditional resume and replace it with portfolios of real work and challenge-based assessments.
Artificial intelligence company Stability AI mostly prevailed against Getty Images Tuesday in a British court battle over intellectual property. Seattle-based Getty had accused Stability AI of infringing its copyright and trademark by scraping 12 million images from its website, without permission, to train its popular image generator, Stable Diffusion.
A chart making the rounds on social media has sparked intense debate about the state of the American economy. Since November 2022, when ChatGPT launched, the S&P 500 has surged more than 70% while job openings have plummeted roughly 30%. The juxtaposition has earned the graphic a foreboding nickname: the “scariest chart in the world.”
