Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta is freezing all hiring in its artificial intelligence division. As the Wall Street Journal reports, the company characterized the hiring freeze as “basic organizational planning,” coinciding with a broader restructuring of its AI division’s leadership. It’s a notable admission that comes as Zuckerberg has been desperately offering key talent mind-boggling financial offers, reportedly reaching $1 billion — with seriously mixed results — that highlight its frantic attempts to catch up in the AI race.
Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY), the AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Paradox, a candidate experience agent that uses conversational AI to simplify every step of the job application journey – particularly for high-volume frontline industries, which employ nearly 3 billion workers globally. The addition of Paradox will give Workday an AI-powered talent acquisition suite to help customers more efficiently find, hire, and onboard every type of worker – from the frontline to the back office – for every type of work, from full-time, to contingent.
Last week, a report from Microsoft — one of the companies most aggressively pushing AI tools out into the world — suggested the top 40 jobs AI will most likely take over in the coming years, as well as the 40 jobs most resistant to the AI invasion. You probably won’t be surprised that telemarketers and translators are at high risk, while more practical roles like nursing assistants and embalmers are at low risk. But in a new report, Christopher Stanton, an associate professor of business administration at Harvard Business School, explained how quickly AI might upset many more white-collar jobs than some people think, and he also worries that there may not be much we can do to stop it.
When Eric Thompson lost his job in October 2024 and started looking for a new one, he began a drawn-out battle with something many job seekers have come to know too well: the dreaded ghost job. He became so fed up with the practice that he’s put together a working group to propose the Truth in Job Advertising and Accountability Act, or federal legislation that would make the practice illegal.
The job market’s boy problems are getting worse. A new analysis of publicly available data shows that unemployment is rising among younger men, and their labor force participation is stagnating. The good news is that there are some fixes.
